Restless in a Strange Pew

comfort zonesEverybody has places where they are the most comfortable. When a person (Yours Truly) is out of their comfortable place there is a certain, what should I say, discomfort. There are two places where I am the most comfortable.

The first place is behind my computer writing. The second place is behind my pulpit preaching.

Oh, what a life we lead who know where we belong. Much of the restlessness of the world is attributed to the fact that people do not know where they belong. I often hear people challenging the rest of us to get out of our comfort zone. This, I say with a good deal of evidence behind me, is why many people are restless and confused.

My advice is, find your comfort zone and stay there. Not only you, but also the rest of the world will be a better place for that little piece of advice. Every week I read of somebody suffering from what is called "burnout." Usually it is somebody who thinks the world cannot get along without them. I have long ago come to the astonishing conclusion that the world would get along just fine without Yours Truly.

Let's Get Ready to Grumble

Let's Get Ready to GrumbleNormally (depending on which definition of normal you are using), I am not given to much grumbling. I do admit to every now and then exercising my right to complain a little, but it is not anything to write home about.

If you would inquire with the Gracious Mistress of the Parsonage she might have a different opinion altogether. It seems that the only thing we really agree on is that we do not agree on too much. Our biggest disagreement would be in this area of grumbling.

Just the other day I was exercising my First Amendment right when my wife looked at me and said, "Are you grumbling again?"

What is a husband to do? If I answer in the negative, she gives me one of those looks that pierces asunder to the soul. She has done this so much that I can honestly say that I have a holey soul. Then again, if I answer in the affirmative I acknowledge that she is right and I am grumbling.

So I do not know what grumbling really is or if I, like my wife insists, I am the all-time record holding champion of the art of grumbling. As far as I am concerned, I just have an opinion and like sharing that opinion with all and sundry.

Loco Pastor Burns His Hand in Loud Protest

surprise barbequeEvery now and then, a thought enters my mind. Once inside my mind, it endures a lonely existence and rattles around long enough to morph into something quite different when it comes out than what went in.

I am not quite sure when this thought entered my mind, but when it came out of my mind it induced me to surprise my wife with a barbecue supper. When this thought first raised its head, I was pleasantly surprised that I, on my very own, could come up with such a good idea.

Has Anyone Seen My Castle Lately?

castleAs of late, I have been fighting an insufferable barrage of intruders into that area commonly referred to as "My Castle." Normally I'm not a pessimist, but I have a feeling I am losing this battle.

I'm the kind of person that tries to get along with everybody but I must say I do have my limit. Regardless of what else I may have, I have a limit to intrusion into my Castle.

Can I get an "Amen" for that?

tiesI must admit that I am not always right. Of course, I did not understand these dynamics until after entering the world of marital bliss. Although I may not always be right, I'm willing to "fess up" to it when somebody graciously points this out to me.

Fortunately, for me, the Gracious Mistress of the Parsonage has made this the supreme priority of her life. Moreover, I must say, I am all the better for it. I, on the other hand, have made "fessing up," the supreme priority of my life. This has made for a wonderful team.

Most people do not know when they are wrong. Nobody tells them about it so they just go their way in the wrong direction doing the wrong thing.

I take comfort in the unexpressed fact that I may not always be right, but then, on the other hand, I am not always wrong either.
