I don't know what the funniest thing about this video is - the material itself or that it's so nonsensical that it's hard to see if this is an interview with a real politician or not.
Of course it's not real . . . . . .or is it.

This very funny “Interview” is a comedy sketch from the early 1990s, the parts of the politician and interviewer being played by Australian television comedy duo John Clarke and Brian Dawe as they discuss an oil spill that occurred in 1991 when the Greek tanker Kirki lost its bow off the coast of Western Australia

Clarke and Dawe's stock in trade is presenting satirical takes on current events, often in the form of mock interviews in which Clarke assumes the role of a beleaguered politician (or other prominent public figure) attempting to explain away some blunder while being grilled by interviewer Dawe.

Clarke is originally from New Zealand. He did a lot of comedy there under the name of "Fred Dagg". A "dagg" is the cut-off part of a sheeps tail, cut off so that it doesn't get fly strike and kill the sheep. It's usually full of the sort of thing you'd expect of the flap nearest the rear of a sheep.

To call someone a "dagg" in NZ or Australia usually means that they're reliably both funny and cheeky. It's a real compliment, as in, "Gee, you're an absolute dagg, Narelle."

Wearing clothing that is "daggy" is not good, however. Daggy clothing is the stuff that is out of fashion and looks terrible, dating the wearer as someone who got lost in another time zone - of a few decades ago.

"Fred Dagg" was, to all intents and purposes, a sheep farmer. There are a lot of sheep farmers in New Zealand. Just like there are a lot of sheep. There are, in fact, more sheep than humans. New Zealand has a major export. Sheep.

Fred Dagg, aka John Clarke, came over to Australia a few decades ago and we have been the richer for it.

He produced guides to various things and careers - like how to be a real estate agent. It is one of my great regrets that I no longer own the vinyl with a lot of his material on it.

John Clarke moved from the ABC (Australian Broadcasting Commission, as it was then, a Federal Government owned and operated body, servicing all of Australia in both TV and radio) to one of the commercial TV free-to-air networks, where we had his on-air persona of just about anyone he thought worthwhile sending up, interviewed by his straight man, Brian Dawe, a respected comedian in his own right.

Eventually, Clarke and Dawe moved back to the ABC (by this time, reworked to the Australian Broadcasting Corporation, still supposedly not allowed commercial advertising, but expected to make a profit and support local programming in a big way), where they continued their satire, and still do, on a programme called "The 7:30 Report" on ABC TV on Thursday nights.

In between this, and private work, they scripted and acted in a seminal series called, "The Games", based on the Olympic Games in Sydney.

Naturally, it was satire of the highest order. Absolutely brilliant. Get hold of a copy if you can. It came out in both DVD and book.

Am I related or their press agent? No. Just love their work and a major fan.

They have a gift for taking the Mickey out of anyone pompous, stupid or misguided.

They work brilliantly together, as you saw by a small snippet that Pastor Tim included above.

I can't recommend them highly enough.
