Demo Trucks - First Race

"The Pastor of Disaster"

My first night of Demo Truck racing was absolutely pure fun. Check out the pictures (snapped by truck owner Rod Millie) and video clips (shot by my wife Susan) below. As always, click on the pictures to view them in a larger size. Don't forget that we've got a number of ways that you can be part of the fun by sponsoring the truck a little bit.

Also, a great big thank you to www.islandnet.com for donating the hosting of the entire cybersalt.org web site. I really appreciate their support towards all of my web projects. They are an awesome internet and webspace provider - check them out!

By the time we got to the track and Rod (the truck owner) set things up and I returned from towing another friend's car out to the track, we had no time to do hot laps (warm up laps). We timed in 4th fastest on cold tires. That was good enough to give us the pole for the 4 lap trophy dash. (There's no hitting in the dash.) On the left is a picture of us lined up before going onto the track for the dash.
Here we are during the introductions before the the dash got under way.

This is me being presented the trophy for winning the dash!

Notice that both hands are on the truck.

This picture is the start of the 12 lap demo truck heat - hit to pass is in effect. I am pushing the #7 truck and the #41 truck has me in his sights.
We all head into turn one and the 41 truck spins me around.
Later on in the night, on the first lap of the main event, the #48 truck crashed hard into some concrete barriers protecting the turn 3 light stand. This brought out the red flag for about 20 - 30 minutes while crews remove the driver and took him to hospital. He's alright. Though I had nothing to do with this crash, it is spectacular so I've put the video on for you to see.

After the track was cleared, the race was restarted. On the first lap I took it to the #42 truck and spun him out - it was a blast!
Attention Demo Truck shoppers - 2 for 1 special in Turn 3 & 4!
I was leading on the white flag lap (last lap) when the 41 truck made his last ditch attempt to spin me in turns 3&4 for the lead. He was either going to hit me or miss and take out the tow vehicles parked off in the darkness out of the camera's eye. Maybe next time he'll get the tow vehicles.

Well, unofficially, it looks like I got second place in the main event on my first night out. It was a blast! It's really the only way one should get smashed on a Saturday night.

Thanks to everyone who helped make it possible - especially my wife and kids who are so supportive and of course to truck owner Rod Millie for letting me drive.

Did I mention we are still looking for sponors?

Y'all come back now - ya here!
