Psalms 46:10 "Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth."

We are living in the fast lane, folks; no doubt about it! Roads we used to travel are now four-lane highways or expressways. The empty lots the children used to play are all now covered with homes, apartments, convenience stores, more and more malls, or service stations. As one more service station/convenience/package store goes up in a neighboring town, we all ask, "Why do we need ONE more station? That makes four on the same road within one block of each other. I'm speaking of a small town; not a big over grown city, with hundreds of thousands of people.

One day your neighbor drives a small car, and, the next time you look, there sets a big Van in the driveway. One television isn't enough; we need one in _each_ room. Local stations aren't enough, but it takes the . . .

Local stations aren't enough, but it takes the cable or satellite to make us happy. Three or four channels aren't enough to choose from; we need hundreds. Just how many can we watch at once? I can't say we aren't guilty in this household, for we do have two televisions and a satellite, although we only get one channel at a time. But, you get the point. We can't be satisifed with a simple life. We have to multiply and multiply everything, until we are equal with the Joneses. Then, we aren't happy until we have succeeded the Joneses!

In all of this, we are looking for a satisfaction in life, a peace that we hope to find with the next purchase, the next trip, or whatever we think brings that happiness. But, we will never find the real peace our heart longs for, until we consider God. Only God can bring everlasting peace, a peace that fulfills every need, and brings joy to our hearts and minds.

God wants us to _be still_ and know that HE is God, that only He can satisfy our every need. He is the one to whom we should look for peace, not worldly goods. They make us happy for a time, but the time gets shorter with every want, and then it's out to begin hunting something else to satisfy our wants. There's no FIX outside of God that will ever bring us complete happiness. We must turn from our wants to our need which is a life without sin, filled with Him and His glory, His grace and mercy. He is the ultimate need for our satisfaction, to get us our of our rut of a life, and into a satisfied state with Him.

Heavenly Father, we know you are the only one who can bring us satisfaction. We slip and think worldly goods or pleasures will bring us happiness. Help us realize our only need is to have you in our hearts and lives, and to give our full attention to you. In Jesus name, we pray. Amen.
