Bedtime Prayer

Details
Published: 25 September 2021

child happyOur three-year-old daughter, Jenna, was having trouble sleeping through the night, waking up because she was afraid. Each time as I re-tucked her into bed, I would remind her that Jesus was with her and he would keep her safe. The sleepless nights continued, with Jenna seeking comfort in our bedroom.

Finally, one night, I asked her if she had prayed for Jesus to take her fear away and help her fall asleep.

"Oh, yes," she assured me. "He told me to come and get you!"

Tattoos, Piercing, Parents, Kids

phone manI couldn't help overhearing a man on a nearby phone call.

"I know it's something you want," he said earnestly, "But I don't think tattoos are a good idea. And the same goes for body piercing. As long as you're living in my house, I think you should respect my wishes."

I was secretly cheering him on for his fatherly firmness.

Then came the 'coup de grace:'

"Besides, Mom, you're 75 years old! You don't need a tattoo!"

Learn to Write in the Sand

Details
Published: 18 September 2021

desert negevTwo friends were walking through the desert.

During the journey, they had an argument; and one friend slapped the other one in the face. The one who got slapped was hurt, but without saying anything, wrote in the sand: “Today my best friend slapped me in the face.”

They kept on walking, until they found an oasis, where they decided to take a bath. The one who had been slapped got stuck in the mire and started drowning, but the friend saved him. After he recovered from the near drowning, he wrote on a stone: “Today my best friend saved my life.”

The friend who had slapped and saved his best friend asked him, “After I hurt you, you wrote in the sand and now, you write on a stone, why?”

The friend replied, “When someone hurts us we should write it down in sand where winds of forgiveness can erase it away. But, when someone does something good for us, we must engrave it in stone where no wind can ever erase it.”

Learn to write your hurts in the sand and to carve your blessings in stone.
