"Do not labor for the food which perishes, but for the food which endures to eternal life, which the son of Man will give to you." John 6:27

"With the present state of the world there are only two alternatives for man, he may try to escape, or he may make money." A quote from a French artist, Picasso!

For the Christian however, there is a third alternative, which is neither an escape nor a mad struggle for money. Jesus points to this when He says: "Take heed and beware of all covetousness; for a man's life does not consist in the abundance of his possessions."

Jesus' own life had little of this world's possessions. "Foxes have holes, and birds of the air have nests, but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay His head." When He died, the clothes He wore were the only possessions which He left behind.

Yet from this Jesus we receive our greatest wealth. It is the only wealth which really endures. When every bit of this world's wealth can no longer give any comfort, the forgiveness, peace, and eternal life which we have through the Son of Man, Jesus Christ, will shine all the more brightly.

Christian friends, How foolish, then, for us to become so involved in the struggle for things which perish that we hardly give thought for that which endures forever.

Living for Jesus through earth's little while,                                                      My dearest treasure, the light of His smile;                                                   Seeking the lost ones He died to redeem,                                                    Bringing the weary to find rest in Him.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY - Worldliness is living as if there is no eternity.
