The apostle Paul viewed his life as a constant spiritual conflict with the world, the flesh, and the devil. But it was also one of successive triumphs. He said "Not as though I had already attained, either were already perfect; but I follow after (v. 12). I remember this song: "I'm pressing on the upward way; new heights I'm gaining every day."
 
Christian friends, as we get older, we tend to dote upon the past. Of course, the ground gained by "taking the fort" is important. But the battle continues; there is much land to be possessed. Having accepted Jesus as our Savior, we may think we are totally surrendered. Yet down in . . .

Having accepted Jesus as our Savior, we may think we are totally surrendered. Yet down in some isolated corner of our lives may be an unyielded area. Even if this is not the case, the world and the devil are constantly trying to defeat us. In total obedience to God's Word and in the strength of His Spirit, let's keep pressing on. One victory calls for another.
 
I want to scale the almost height
And catch a gleam of glory bright;
But still I'll pray till heaven I've found,
"LORD, lead me on to higher ground.
