SEVENTH  SUNDAY  AFTER  PENTECOST

"This is the day the LORD hath made, let us rejoice and be glad in it."

Zechariah 9:8-12                                                                                                                Romans 7:15-25                                                                                                                Matthew 11:25-30                                                                                                                   Psalm 124

By reading the OT and Epistle lessons it will prepare the way for you to understand the Gospel, about those who are weary and heavy laden whom Jesus addresses in this text.

Jesus invites all who are weary and carrying heavy burdens to come to Him for rest. Jesus' words are balm to the ears of people whose lives are anxious and frantic. We, too, long for a way of life that spiritually centers us in a peace beyond our problems.

Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, Jesus says. In baptism we have put on Christ,; we are clothed with His grace and mercy. throughout our lives we open our hearts to His way of life, to Him mission, to His promise of rest.

Sunday is our day of rest and renewal. We gather around word and meal that we might be refreshed by God's peace and filled with God's wisdom. We come to learn from Christ, that we may walk in His gentle way of justice, humility, and compassion. Yet the gift of restful peace is not for ourselves alone.

Christian friends,  Our lives are the sign of God's promised rest for all who are weary and longing for a rest that endures. Friends, come to Christ and receive His free salvation and find rest for your soul.  Will you come today?

Come to the Savior, make no delay-                                                                        Here in His Word He's shown us the way;                                                          Here in our midst He's standing today,                                                       Tenderly saying, "Come!"

PRAY with me- Grant, LORD, that the course of this world may be so governed by your direction that Your Church may rejoice in serving You in godly peace and quietness. In Jesus name. Amen
