  • summer sunsetOh look, Chicken Thursday!

There was no mailing last Chicken Thursday. When I remembered late Wednesday that I hadn't put it together yet, I was just plum tuckered out. There was also no mailing on Sunday, which I blame my granddaughters for, lol. Of course, it goes without saying that anyone who can get "tuckered out" has grandchildren.

True to the old axiom, "Opposites Attract", Rev. James Snyder likes summer, but his is more for winter. To be fair, they both live in Florida, so they are closer than it sounds. You can read, "My Somber Longing for Summer" at:

  • A picture of Roger's chickens. Oh look, Chicken Thursday - and a big shoutout to subscriber Shelia Heil who sent in a picture of her brother's chickens! Not only was that fun, but I got a good laugh out of the filename for the picture: "Roger's Chickens 2017.jpg." Lol, I'm already excited to see what they look like in 2018.

I'm almost afraid to make this a thing, but what the heck. Do you or someone close to have chickens? I guess you better send me a picture of them to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.!

  • chicken and aaron Oh look, Chicken Thursday.

I asked for chicken pictures last week and I got some chicken pictures! Today's Chicken Thursday shoutout is to Sharon who sent this picture of her grandson Aaron playing with his chicken in a snow tunnel. While I have a few more pictures in the queue, feel free to send more to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

In other Cybersalt news, I had a real treat today when Cybersaltines Bill and Beth Romahn connected with me during their West Coast travels. Bill contacted me some time ago about wanting to give me his collection of emergency humour reserves from his speech writing days. Amongst many things, he used to write speeches for the Minister of Agriculture when Pierre Trudeau (Justin's dad for you young Canucks) was Prime Minister. Having said that (and lost half of my Canadian readers who just deleted this e-mail), it was nice to sit down with Beth and Bill and talk a little bit of Cybersalt and a bunch of life.

Today's Chicken Thursday shoutout is to Heather P., who sent a bunch of chicken pictures. This one is of her daughter Kathleen with one of their flock - though to keep things light let's just say they don't have any chickens right now.

Thank you to everyone for your kind comments after I announced my upcoming retirement from Westside Bible Church. Some have wondered if I will be continuing on with Cybersalt. The simple and big answer to that is, "Yes!" and I'll have more to say about that in the near future.

What will be changing is the ministry focus that Susan and I will have. We will be working to help churches with the process of refugee sponsorship as well as helping individuals and churches support persecuted Christians overseas through Pakistan Evangelistic Ministries.

Do you know what's hot again? Christmas jokes! Ok, at least for a couple of weeks they will be. So to take advantage of the times you can find a list of most of the Christmas Jokes (67 of them) on the Cybersalt Site at the following URL. Keep in mind though, some from the the last 10 or so will be making their way back to the top in the next couple of weeks as they appear here. So no peeking - you'll spoil the surprise. • some flags of the worldOh look, the first Chicken Thursday of 2018 - Happy New Year!

Sunday's Cybersalt Digest included an item that featured 40 ways to say Merry Christmas and Happy New Year in different languages. Well, it turns out there were some missing. Thanks to everyone who contributed more:

    Jaco van W. wrote:

You forgot my home language Afrikaans: It is a beautiful language spoken in the most southern point of africa. In afrikaans, the translation is : “Geseënde kersfees en voorspoedige nuwe jaar”! Regards “groete”

     Liberté H. wrote:

You missed out Europe’s oldest living language..... Welsh.... happy new year is Blwyddyn Newydd dda..... to pronounce the dd sound you put your tongue as if you were going to say THE, only it is a longer gentle blow..... then to pronounce the LL letter (as they are both letters in their own right!) you put your tongue again to say THE only this time instead of gently blowing forwards you blow sideways.... as if you have a certain type of lisp.

And my neglected online friend, Walter M., wrote:

You know I like to jump on the least little possible error, like the Aztec Sun Stone, so I thought I would mention that "Shanah Tova" is something I have only heard in connection with the Jewish new year which was a little while ago.  It might be the same, but I'll have to check it out with my Messianic pastor friend.  You also left out my favorite language, Siamese.  Oh-wah  ta-si ligu Siam.

I'll be making updates to the original item.

  • Cybersalt's Black Friday Sale SquareUpon the excellent suggestion of subscriber J. Blasdale, I will break with tradition and greet you today with:

    Oh look, Turkey Thursday!

Yes, Happy Thanksgiving to our US subscribers! Now, I find it interesting that J. Blasdale suggested that because in his email to me he described himself as a Brit who has lived in New Jersey for 33 years. I think the "Brit" part has been fading over time because he also asked if we celebrated Thanksgiving in Canada. Of course we do, only we do it on the second Monday of October - perhaps because our harvest is earlier or maybe we're just so thankful that we can't wait until the end of November to let our thankfulness out!

In recent years, Canadians have increasingly been thankful for the arrival of American Thanksgiving because it means one more day before we can celebrate Black Friday together with them. So, in keeping with that theme, I'm happy to announce that Cybersalt is having a Thanksgiving 25% sale on all our web hosting packages. Between now and Monday, use the code "thanksgiving25" and you'll receive 25% off of your web hosting order at www.cybersalthosting.com

Also, if you are looking for something beyond web hosting (ie. a website being built, remote support or training on your computer, training videos for your staff, narration of a project, or something else I may help you with) email me this weekend at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. and I'll give you the same 25% discount.

Finally, even though I have retired from the church I was pastoring, my Thanksgiving sermons are still on the church website. Sure they're all Canadian Thanksgiving sermons, but if you ignore all the times I say, "Eh!" there is still plenty of meat on the bone!

  • crystal logo draft 300x329 Oh look, Chicken Thursday!

Today, I'm excited to share with you (to the right) the new logo for the consulting and commercial side of Cybersalt, which will be officially launching on November 1. This new image will be the logo for Cybersalt.com. However, I still need to select a font to go with it. I invite you to help in picking one. Thanks to all who responded with interest to connect with Christian refugees who have fled Pakistan for Thailand and now find themselves in terrible circumstances. I'm working to match you up as soon as possible. • 1937 Chicken Farming in Ireland Oh look, Chicken Thursday!

Today's Chicken Thursday shoutout is to Tommy A., who sent this authentic picture titled "Farming in Ireland, 1937." I know it's not photoshopped because there were no computers in 1937. I am guessing this isn't Tommy. If it is, I apologize for missing the chance to send you congratulations on your 100th birthday - about 30 years ago!

Cybersalt has begun to support Christian refugees who have fled to Thailand and find themselves in terrible circumstances. Having fled Pakistan using tourist visas long expired, they are not allowed to work. However, they still need to pay rent and buy food while they wait years for their UN applications for refugee status to be processed. Consequently they live in constant fear of being arrested and taken to an Immigration Detention Center. One of our goals is to connect these brothers and sisters in Christ with other Christians through e-mail and social media for the purpose of mutual encouragement through prayer and fellowship. If you'd like to know more or be connected with a family please e-mail me - This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.
