Jesus was on His way to Bethany and was invited to dine with Martha and Mary. How to entertain Him must have been a matter of deepest concern for both of them. Martha knew what she would do to honor Him by providing some of the things which He so seldom enjoyed in His busy life.
 
Mary also wished to show her distinguished Guest all honor. She busied herself around the house and helped her sister at serving. But soon she . . .

Mary also wished to show her distinguished Guest all honor. She busied herself around the house and helped her sister at serving. But soon she forgot all about serving and instead sat at Jesus' feet and listened with undivided attention to those precious words that fell from His divine lips.
 
It was noble for Martha to receive and welcome Jesus into her home, but it was far more noble when Mary received and welcomed Him into her heart.
 
Christian friends, One thing is needful. The Word of God is the one indispensable factor of our life, because all spiritual blessings are inseparably connected with God's Word. There is nothing of greater importance than the hearing of  this Word.
 
      In the garden of my heart
      There is a sure retreat,
      Where I may enter, close the door,
      And learn at Jesus' feet.
