The Holy Innocents, Martyrs
Jeremiah 31:15-17
1 Peter 4:12-19
Matthew 2:13-18
Psalm 124

"Herod was infuriated, and he sent and killed all the children two years old or under."
Matthew 2:16

This day is devoted to the memory of the Holy Innocents slaughtered by order of King Herod in an attempt to kill the child Jesus. It seems incredible that anyone could commit such a heinous crime, but Herod was responsible for the deaths of two of his own sons, a number of in-laws, and hundreds of others.

Where can we look for light in the midst of all the darkness in our world today? We look to. . .

While Jesus escaped death early in life, He met death head on in the cross, rose to defeat death, and shared that victory with all the world. Let us pray for all the victims of violence and abuse.

All praise for infant martyrs whom Your mysterious love called early from their warfare to share Your home above. O Rachel, cease your weeping; They rest from earthbound cares. Lord, grant us hearts as guileless and crowns as bright as theirs.

PRAY - LORD, we thank You for Your victory over death and destruction. Amen.
