"Then fearing lest we should have fallen upon rocks, they cast four anchors out of the stern and wished for the day."
- Acts 27:29

Paul, the prisoner, was being taken to Rome for trial and martyrdom. A terrific storm on the Mediterranean threatened to wreck the ship at Malta, and the crew cast four anchors out the stern, and all on board wished for the daylight.

This incident suggests that we need anchors for the ship of our life which will hold in the stormy night. One such anchor is faith in God, through Christ. To be able to say with confidence, no matter . . .

This incident suggests that we need anchors for the ship of our life which will hold in the stormy night. One such anchor is faith in God, through Christ. To be able to say with confidence, no matter how dark the night: "I believe in God the Father Almighty," conscious of all which that implies, gives us an anchor that will hold.

Doubt, unbelief, defiance, and the like are poor anchors; they can never hold the ship of life when the winds are contrary. They would only add to our troubles. We need the feeling of security, begotten of faith in God, to which the Psalmist gave expression: "God is our Refuge and Strength, a very present Help in trouble.

Christian friends, "We will not fear, though the earth be removed and though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea, though the waters thereof roar and be troubled, though the mountains shake with the swelling thereof. The LORD of Hosts is with us, the God of Jacob is our Refuge."

Simply trusting every day,
Trusting through a stormy way;
Even when my faith is small,
Trusting Jesus, that is all.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY - When God puts a burden upon you, He also puts His own arm under you.
