"When Moses' hands grew tired, they took a stone and put it under him and he sat on it. Aaron and Hur held his hands up, one on one side, one on the other so that his hands remained steady till sunset."

To the human eye the battle between the Israelites and Amalek was decided by numerical strength and military strategy. The struggle was decided on the top of a hill near by. There stood Moses, with the rod of God in his hand lifted up to heaven in prayer. When his arms grew weary, Aaron and Hur supported him in this position until sunset.

When Israel was fiercely attacked by her enemies, the LORD miraculously intervened. As long as Moses lifted up his hands in an attitude of prayerful dependence on the LORD, the battle went well for Israel. Whenever Moses lowered his hands because of weariness, the tide turned.

We must not forget Aaron and Hur. They had to climb the same mountain themselves, and their support of Moses' arms took time, strength, and commitment on their part. The principle is this: People who serve the LORD behind the scenes often pay a higher price than those who are in the center of public attention.

In the churches today the emphasis is largely upon men, financial resources, organization and methods. But the real power to convert sinful men, the power to preserve and strengthen faith, is that of the Holy Spirit. This power is available to those who in the name of Jesus pray for it. Our Savior give us His word for it. He says: 'If ye, then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children, how much more shall your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask Him?"

Christian friends, Tomorrow morning we shall join our fellow Christians in Communion and prayer, in which we pray for our church and its members. God's servants need help. You can help by encouraging your pastor by praying for him, listening attentively and by participating wholeheartedly in the service.

When in church you hear the Word
Preached by servants of the LORD,
Always let your heart attend
To the message God will send.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY - Only those who are bound to Christ know freedom from sin. We need each other is we are to do what God wants us to do.
