"The LORD preserveth the sojourners; He relieveth the fatherless and widow."
- Psalm 146:9

I hope you will take the time to read the whole chapter of 146 as to see how the Bible admonishes believers to honor widows, and strongly condemns individuals who in any way take advantage of them. Also see in Matt. 23:14. In fact God expresses His special care and concern for bereaved women in Prov. 15:25, and in Ex. 22:22, and in many similar passages in both the OT and NT.

When my father passed away a few years ago, I went to stay with his wife(our stepmother). A few days after my dads funeral the pastor came to visit us. During his visit he read Psalm 146 and the way he read it gave us both comfort. The days that followed found us reading and rereading that Psalm. Just to know that the LORD would take care of her was . . .

Many of her church friends rallied to her support and her needs were supplied and she was greatly encouraged by their acts of love and attention.

Christian friends, you who have lost your husbands, God's directive in Jeremiah 49:11 is clear and comforting: "Let thy widows trust in Me."

His love unchanged throughout the years abideth,
When other loves have changed or passed away;
No aching, breaking heart in Him confideth,
But finds its night of sorrow turned to day.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY - Every dark cloud God allows to come into our lives has a rainbow of blessing in it.
