"By faith Abraham, when called to go to a place he would later receive as his inheritance, obeyed and went even though he did not know where he was going. By faith he made his home in the promised land like a stranger in a foreign country. He was looking forward to the city with foundations; whose architect and builder is God."

Abraham's life was filled with faith. At God's command he left home and went to another land obeying without question.

This earth is not our true home. We should never feel too much at home here. All the trumpets of glory sound for us from the other side. They who by faith see their heavenly home from afar are the ones who live the best kind of life here. Deep in their hearts they possess a holy glow of joy that enters all they do and say. They know they are on their way home. Even now the bright rays of the heavenly city fall across their path. They have a vision of the glory, and they know by the holy promise of their Savior that someday they will inherit it.

This hope lightens every burden, brightens every sorrow, inspires a holy walk and gives a sweet foreglow of the heavenly mansions above.

Christian friends, Abraham knew that God had called him and had given him a  promise and that was enough. He was willing to entrust his future to the LORD. We may do the same by trusting our LORD for the future and stepping out in faith. As we stand on this week before Holy Week, may this prayer of faith and anticipation be ours:

O LORD God, who has called us, Your servants,
By paths as yet untrodden,
And through perils unknown,
Give us faith to go out with good courage,
Not knowing where we go
But only that Your hand is leading us
And Your love is supporting us. Amen

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY - Venture into the unknown with faith in God.
