"Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning."
- James 1:17

In spring the sun does not gain new power nor send forth greater glory. The secret of the change which takes place about us is simply the turning of our land's face toward the God-given source of natural light and heat and life.

In God, to whom we are indebted for all that we are and have as Christians, there is no variableness nor shadow of turning. He is the same yesterday, today, and forever.

The changes are in man when he turns away from God and thus loses the warmth and the power which He would send into our lives.

When during spring and summer we largely look away form God and His Church, the glow of faith, which, perhaps, was strong and bright during the Lenten season, weakens. There is a growing coldness. September may find us strangely indifferent to the blessings which God intends for us through the Word and Sacrament.

Christian friends, we are the losers. We deprive ourselves of the joys which really satisfy. We are not as strong as we ought to be to face the special moral dangers of the summer months. Vacation does not fully serve its purpose of recreating us for the tasks and experiences that lie ahead.

As endless as God's blessings are,
So should my praises be
For all His daily goodnesses
That flow unceasingly

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY - If you know that God's hand is in everything, you can leave everything in God's hand.
