They said to each other, "Did not our hearts burn within us while He talked to us on the road, while He opened to us the Scriptures?"
- Luke 24:32

I felt I needed to repeat this verse again when I sang one of my favorite hymns, "My Faith Looks Up to Thee." we pray, "My zeal inspire," To have that zeal means to have a burning passionate feeling within our hearts for the cause of Christ and His kingdom. This zeal needs rekindling. This is what brought me to this verse again.

After the two disciples had walked and talked with the resurrected Christ, they shared their experience, saying:"Did not our hearts burn within us while He talked to us on the road?" This burning feeling just had to be shared. They had been in the presence of Christ.

Unlike the disciples, we are not able to . . .

Unlike the disciples, we are not able to see and hear Christ personally. Yet we can enjoy His presence in Word and Sacrament when we worship together, as we shall do in our worship service on Sunday.

It is comforting for us to know that the burning feeling that Christ's presence provided came while "He opened to them the Scriptures." This same Christ, who suffered and died for all, reveals Himself to us in the Scriputres.

Christian friends, through the power of the Holy Spirit in the Word, we receive that burning feeling of wanting to share our faith in Christ with others.

"Let Thy dear Word,
Mid doubt and strife,
Be strong within us burning,
That we be faithful unto death." Amen

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY - Pray for the Spirit's fruit, which is patience.
