I felt the need to continue from yesterday in Ephesians 2:8,9, and 10.

Saved by grace, through faith in Christ, not by works of our own. that is the only Gospel found in the New Testament. "A man is justified by faith, without the deeds of the Law." This central truth of the Christian religion needs again and again to be emphasized, for it is so contrary to the religion of natural man.

But there is also another side that must be equally emphasized. The faith that justifies, the faith by which we are saved, is not a dead knowledge in the head, but a living thing in the heart. "Faith works by love" Galatians 5:6. Saving faith is an active, busy thing, that performs good works without questioning.

Here God tells us that we are His workmanship; that, even as He has given us our body and soul, so He has now given us . . .

Here God tells us that we are His workmanship; that, even as He has given us our body and soul, so He has now given us spiritual life and power "created in Christ Jesus"the express purpose that we should perform good works. We are saved not only for the life here-after, but equally so for this life on earth. We are saved to serve! The Apostle goes so far as to tell us that God has ordained and determined the very works according to God's will and plan. How far we daily come short of that. How can we improve?

Christian friends, we can improve by daily searching out God's will in His Word; by daily seeking God's guidance in sincere prayer; and by frequently seeking spiritual strength in the Holy Sacrament.

Once we stop our own devising,
Quit the schemes of our own choosing,
Cease for all our fruitless striving,
God steps in with grace and power.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY - God's ability is not limited by our inability.
