The Gospel passage for today tells us of Jesus headed for Jerusalem for the last time before His death on the Cross. Jesus encounters various persons who might be interested in following Him. He says to one, "No one who puts a hand to the plow and looks back is fit for the kingdom of God."

As He went along toward Jerusalem,Jesus also encountered people whom He called to be with Him and to follow Him. This is the way in which Jesus had called the first disciples. James and John, and sons of Zebebee, the "Sons of Thunder" who wanted to call down fire on the Samaritan village, had been called in this way,

Jesus had walked along by the Sea of Galilee and simply said to them. "Follow Me" and they left their father in the boat with the hired hands and followed Jesus. They made no excuses as this other person had done. they did not say, "Sure Jesus, we'll be right there, just as soon as our dad dies and we set the estate in order." NO, they followed without delay. Most people whom Jesus called were soon looking at him walking away if they did not get up and follow Him.

Christian friends, we must serve the LORD with one chief purpose in mind, that is to do His work faithfully. We should not let personal matters turn us aside from this purpose. If we walk with Jesus, we shall get in shape and be fit for the kingdom of God. Let us make it a daily thing.

If a task is once begun,
Never leave it till it's done'
Be the labor great or small,
Do it well or not at all.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY - Even if you are on the right track, you won't get anywhere if you just sit there.
