"They that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint."
- Isaiah 40:31

We all wish for strength. How often the cry is heard: If only I were stronger! We need physical strength for the labors of the day. soon we realize that we need more than mere bodily strength. We need moral strength: to resist evil from within and without. We need spiritual strength for the conflicts of life. We need courage to fight the good fight of faith; patience to bear the cross; perseverance to endure unto the end. Whatever the form, it is always divine strength that we need.

But you ask, how shall we obtain it? By waiting upon the LORD. In this glorious 40th chapter of Isaiah we are bidden to look into the universe and there to mark the presence and power of God; to look up into the starry sky and to contemplate the omnipotence that created and the omniscience that calls all the stars by name. We re reminded that however weary and feeble we may feel, the Creator "fainteth not, neither is weary." "He giveth power to the faint."

Christian friends, to us the LORD Jesus gives the assurance: "My grace is sufficient for thee; for My strength is made perfect in weakness.

LORD, give us wings to soar above
      Our problems great and small,
      With strengthened faith and confidence
To trust You with them all.
