"Thy kingdom come."
- Matthew 6:10

The Second Petition of the LORD'S Prayer has been called the missionary petition. In this petition we pray not only that the Kindgom of God may come to us, but we pray that it may come to others also. The LORD'S Prayer focuses on our request that God bring in his kingdom. This is somthing that only God can do. This request expresses the desire that God's reign and His purposes take place in this world even as they already do in the throne room of heaven.

In our prayers on behalf of immortal souls let us be encouraged by the promise of God's Word: "The effectual, fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much." We may never be privileged to reap such a harvest of souls. But, if by the grace of God we win only one soul for heaven, the Savior's estimate will be that we have brought Him something that is more precious in His sight than the riches of the entire world. In this petition we mean God's kingdom of Grace and His kingdom of Glory, but not His kingdom of Power.

Christian friends, in this petition we ask God would graciously grant us true faith and a godly life; and that He would extend His Kingdom of Grace on earth, and that He would hasten the coming of His Kingdom of Glory.

      There's never a year nor a season
      That prayer may not bless every hour;
      And never a prayer need be helpless
      When linked with God's infinite power.
