Grandpa always wondered when he preached if his sermons would feed souls. Some would comment on his message and if he had been blessed by it they would say, "That will do very will, that will feed my soul." Many times he would see retired pastors sitting in the pews and knew they would be judging his message. He did not worry as he knew what he said was scripturally sound.
 
Ministry of all kinds, whether oral or written, may well be judged by the same standard, does it feed souls? The LORD has given specific qualities of leadership and spiritual understand to certain individuals, equipping them to feed the flock of God and to exercise loving and prayerful oversight of the church. These under-shepherds have been commissioned to lead the Savior's sheep into the green pastures of His nourishing Word.
 
Believers need more than pretty stories, lovely music, and lectures on civil rights and political viewpoints. The man in the pulpit who preaches the pure Word will find that the true sheep of God will not wander away.
 
Servant of God, be faithful today in proclaiming the truths of Scripture. Then your listeners will be able to echo the words, "That will feed my soul."
 
We love to feed upon His Word
And hear His servants preach;
We gladly sit before the ones
Whose gift it is to teach.
 
THOUGHT FOR THE DAY - If some sermons were for sale, they couldn't be labeled "food," but rather, "dry goods and notions"!
