Modern psychiatrists tell us that a sense of guilt crowded down into our innermost being make for mental disturbances. David knew that long ago. He wrote: "When I kept silence, my bones waxed old through my roaring all the day long. For day and night Thy hand was heavy upon me."

Modern psychiatrists tell us that a sense of guilt crowded down into our innermost being make for mental disturbances. David knew that long ago. He wrote: "When I kept silence, my bones waxed old through my roaring all the day long. For day and night Thy hand was heavy upon me."

Some resort to more subtle ways of covering their sins. They assure us that when you in Rome, you must do as the Romans do; you are more or less obliged to accept the moral standards of the circle within which you move. Others speak of sin in terms that tend to soften guilt or remove it entirely. The result is the same. They shall not prosper before God, who judge all without exception according to His holy Law. A conscience that has been doped may at anytime awaken with disastrous results to what seems to be peace of mind.

Why try to cover up our sins? The blood of Jesus Christ cleanseth us from all sin. For His sake God says to those who penitently confess their sins and believe in Him as their Savior: "Come now, and let us reason together as though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool."

Christian friends, What about you today? Is there something in your life that you are covering up? It won't work. You can't fool God. Confess it to the LORD and experience His mercy, love, and grace.

Jesus died to pay sin's debt,
Forgiveness to bestow;
But all who try to cover sin
His grace will never know.

He came to pay a debt He didn't owe
Because we owed a debt we couldn't pay.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY - Confession is the key that opens the door to forgiveness.
