Christmas is upon us. Last-minute preparations are being completed for
its celebration in our homes and in our churches. "Everywhere,
everywhere, Christmas tonight."
Our thoughts go back to the first Holy Night, when heaven's portals
opened and the angelic host streamed forth, surrounded by radiant,
celestial splendor, and appeared to shepherds on the fields of
Bethlehem. The herald angel announced: "Behold, I bring . . .
"Without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifest in the flesh."

The herald angel announced: "Behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people; for unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, which is Christ, the LORD." And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying: "Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men."
We go with the shepherds to Bethlehem, and we find "the Babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger."
Chrisitian friends, Here we stand in the presence of the miracle of the ages. This is God manifest in the flesh. Here is a mystery which is indeed "without controversy great": the mighty God in the Babe of Bethlehem, lying in a manger.
Heaven's arches rang when the angles sang,
Proclaiming Thy royal degree;
But of lowly birth didst Thou come to earth
And in greatest humility.
