During this time of year in the Northern Hemisphere, we begin to see the signs of early winter. In this gospel lesson, Jesus speaks to his disciples about signs that will indicate the passing of the present age. - wars, earthquakes and famines which will be only birth pangs of the end times. During this time of year in the Northern Hemisphere, we begin to see the signs of early winter. In this gospel lesson, Jesus speaks to his disciples about signs that will indicate the passing of the present age. - wars, earthquakes and famines which will be only birth pangs of the end times. With out birth pangs, new life is not possible. So we as baptized people of God, can accept events that bring pain while trusting that this pain is not the last word. Christ has promised that after all these things have taken place, He will come again, ushering in the kingdom of God for which we wait.

Let us not wait for devastation and tragedy to strike before we gather together for solace and comfort. Let us gather in worship, hearing God's Word, receiving Christ's comforting presence in the Holy Supper, and reminding one another of the hope that carries us forward.  When we pray the LORD'S Prayer, we claim God's power over all of life: "For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever and ever. Amen   So let us be strengthened and assured to carry on, trusting these and all things to God's protecting hands.

When we say yes to Jesus as LORD,
We pledge to take Him at His Word;
If we're sincere He'll give us the grace
To follow till we see His face.

PRAY - O LORD, absolve Your people from their offenses, that from the bonds of our sins, which by reason of our weakness we have brought upon us, we may be delivered by Your bountiful goodness. Amen
