"In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth."
- Genesis 1:1

The next few weeks I will be taking you through the Bible, book by book. This is by request.

The very first verse of the Bible declares one of the fundamental truths of our religion. The questions much discussed and disputed, supplies answers which are wholly satisfactory to us who are willing to accept the statement of God's Word.

How are we to . . .

How are we to account for this world? What is the origin of man? Heaven and earth were not formed by a collision of planets; nor has man descended from the brute in the jungle. We are grateful that not only in this very first verse, but in numerous other passages the Bible proclaims God as the almighty Maker of heaven and earth and also man.

We stand in awe before the mighty works of God. "The heavens declare the glory of God, and the firmament showeth His handiwork." We are at once both humbled and exalted as we contemplate how wonderfully God has made man. "I will praise Thee, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made."

 Christians friends, may each of us answer this call to praise God in joyful and lasting ways. Let's join all creation in celebrating the greatness of our God.

           God, who formed worlds by the power of His word,
           Speaks through the Scriptures His truth to be heard;
           And if we read with the will to obey,
           He by His Spirit will show us His way.
