"Feed My lambs.. Feed My sheep."
- John 21:15-16

Giving up may seem to be the easy way out for Steven, but soon enough he will learn what Peter learned. Just before Jesus was crucified, Peter denied that he was one of Christ's disciples. But the story doesn't end with failure. Later, Jesus encouraged Peter to serve Him faithfully. And what happened to Peter? In the opening Ch. of Acts we find him leading the early church and boldly proclaiming the gospel. --"When I have failed, I need You, LORD, to teach this lesson clear: If I but learn and try again, success is always near."

There are many children in our country whose souls are fed almost exclusively on a diet of fairy takes, comics, and  TV serials. Many adults seem to find all they need for their inner life in newspapers, TV, parties, and adult magazines. Do we, therefore, wonder why so many people fail in the battle of life? What will be the verdict of . . .

Tomorrow our pastor and the teachers of our Sunday schools will offer food for our souls. They have not prepared it according to a recipe of their own. It is food given by a loving heavenly Father. It is food for the young as well as the old. It is food which is adapted to the temporal and eternal needs of all for whom Jesus died on the Cross.

Christian friends, if you do not have an appetite for this food, let us call in the divine Physician. Let us pray that He may show us what ails us. Have we, perhaps unknowingly joined the ranks of the Pharisees, who depend on their own goodness for their eternal salvation? Let us not make the mistake the man in the parable who, looking upon his large harvest, says to his soul: "Soul take thine ease, eat, drink, and be merry"

When I have failed, I need You, LORD,
To teach this lesson clear:
If I but learn and try again,
Success is always near.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY - Because of God's grace, failure is never final. So if first you don't succeed with Christ's help, try again.
